After twenty-one years of sewing bags, we know how to sew. Besides, a lot of stores have been bugging us to put the same quality, price, and dependability of our bags into clothing. We finally plunked down the money for the machines and began sewing bike shorts in November 1998.
We sew with thicker thread than normal, triple stitch the waist, use multi-stitch zigzags for strength, and use the finest materials available. For the seat pad, we chose the Monolith® by Eschler AG of Switzerland. The pads are formed in Italy for us to our specifications. We have two sizes for men's shorts and two for women's shorts. All pads are seamless, and are die-cut (rather than heat-formed) to conform to the body's contours. They are treated with an anti-bacterial agent. All of the shorts are eight-panel, or are modified-eight (as in the higher end models). We use only Lycra gripper tape at the legs for long life; we realize that it is not as grippy, but we're also confident that it'll be there after a few washes.
NOTE:
Jandd realizes that not all cyclist bodies are the same. This is why we make our relaxed-fit short. In simple terms, a relaxed men's size large short is the equivalent of an extra large without the added length in the legs that a typical extra large would have. So, people with muscular behinds can now buy something that fits, but does not resemble lederhosen.
